A is for Apple (butter)

Since Aubrey, our oldest, isn't in school yet, I decided to teach her a new letter each week.  She knows the alphabet and recognizes most of the letters, but I want to teach her to write them also.  So naturally we started with the letter A.  We took a little field trip to our local apple orchard.  We picked about 15lbs. of apples.  With some of them we made apple butter and it was made in the slow cooker!  Want the recipe?  Here it is:

SLOW COOKER APPLE BUTTER
5lbs. apples peeled, cored & chopped
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Place all ingredients in slow cooker, mix well.
Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours stirring occasionally til thickened.
Let cool slightly.  Spoon into jars and refrigerate.

It tastes delicious and makes your house smell wonderful!  This recipe was adapted from skinnytaste.com.  I doubled it and added a tad more cinnamon.  Also, I kept it slightly chunky.

Thanks for stopping by!

Trish
